1899:

Death of nephew Balendranath. Taking over as Acharya (Chancellor), Shantiniketan.

1901:

Editor of Bangadarshan (Journal) in its new phase. Two daughters- the eldest and the second- married. Founding the 'Brahmacharyashram' at Shantiniketan.

1902:

Death of Mrinalini Devi. 1903 : Death of Renuka.

1905 :

Death of Maharshi Debendranath. Participation in the festival of 'Rakhibandhan ' on the occasion of the movement against Partition of Bengal.

1907 :

Marriage of the youngest daughter, Mira Devi. Death of Shamindranath, youngest son, at the end of the year .

1910:

Rathindranath, eldest son, married; Gitanjali published; composition of the play ‘Raja’.

1911:

Poet's fiftieth anniversary celebrated at Shantiniketan. Editing of ‘Tattvavodhini’ (Journal) and composition of ‘Achalayatan’ and ‘Dakghar’ (plays).

1912 :

Reception of Rabindranath by Bangiya Sahitya Parishad at the Town Hall on his completion of fifty glorious years. Poet going abroad for the third time; acquaintance with Andrews ; publication of the English Gitanjali ('Song Offerings') ; going to America for the first time.

1913:

Receiving the Nobel Prize Award; D.Litt. awarded by the University of Calcutta.

1914 :

Foundation of the 'Vichitra' Association at Jorasanko ;
'Sabujpatra' (literary journal) published; short stories composed for 'Sabujpatra'

1915:

Visit by Gandhiji and his wife to Santiniketan. Knighthood conferred on Rabindranath.

1916:

First visit to Japan. Speech in Japan against imperialist policy. Also a speech delivered there on nationalism.

1917:

Visiting Japan for a second time and return to Calcutta via America. Formation of the 'Vichitra Club.'

1918:

Death of Madhurilata, eldest daughter; foundation laid of the 'Visva-Bharati'; visit to south India for the first time.

1919:

Renouncement of 'Knighthood', consequent on the massacre at Jallianwalabagh.

1920:

Going to Europe for the fourth time; visiting countries like Britain, France, Holland, Belgium etc. and then going to America for the third time.

1921:

 

Introduction with Elmhurst; speech delivered at the Harvard University; arrival in Europe for the fifth time; return to India and development of difference with Gandhiji over the Non -Cooperation Movement- the Poet alerting the nation against the disastrous potential of this political agitation without the due mental preparation for this in advance.

1922:

Tour of South India, Western India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) for raising funds for the Visva-Bharati.

1924:

Tour of China: Lectures delivered at sundry places; third visit to Japan; fifth visit to Europe; going to South America on invitation from Peru; acquaintance with Victoria Ocampo in Argentina.

1925:

Returning to India from Italy.

1926:

Invitation from Dhaka University; Speech delivered in Dhaka; going off to Europe for the sixth time; returning to India on having travelled across the following countries: Italy, England, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Egypt.

1927:

Expedition to SouthEast Asia, Java, Sumatra, Singapore, Penang, Malay, Bali, Siam.

1928:

Ceylon visited for a second time; meeting Aurobindo at Pondicherri en route.

1929:

Visiting Canada and then taking Japan on the stride (for the fourth time) before returning to India through the Indo-Chinese route.

1930:

Invited to Oxford for delivering the Hibbert Lecture (Poet's seventh visit to England) ; first exhibition of the Poet's paintings in Paris; more such exhibitions at Birmingham, Berlin, Munich, Kopenhagen, Moscow, New York and Boston; Visit to the Soviet Russia; 'Russiar Chitthi' published; fifth visit paid to America and returning home in1931.

1932:

Travel to Persia; made Ramtanu Lahiri Professor at Calcutta University and delivering his lecture; death of Nitindranath in Germany, Miradevi's son.

1933:

Delivering the 'Kamala' Lecture in Calcutta University; touring over many places in India, like Bombay, Waltair and Hyderabad, and delivering speeches in Andhra University and Osmania University.

1934:

Expedition to Ceylon with troupes of dancers and actors ; Ceylon visited therefore for the third time.

1935:

North India tour: D. Litt. conferred on the Poet by the Benaras Hindu University.

1936:

D.Litt conferred by Dhaka University. Going to North India with a troupe of singers and dancers in a bid to raise funds for Visva-Bharati ; receiving a cheque of Rs. 60,000 from Birla through Gandhiji's mediation.

1937:

'China Bhavan' founded at Shantiniketan ; poet taken ill suddenly.

1938:

Protests against the Japanese aggression on China in Asia and the German aggression on Czechoslovakia in Europe.

1939:

Rabindranath stricken with grief at the hostility of Gandhiji towards Subhas Chandra in the national politics. Subhas Chandra and Jawaharlal arriving at Shantiniketan and holding conference with the poet. The poet's anxiety at the outbreak of World War.

1940:

Receiving Gandhiji at Santiniketan. Death of Andrews. Oxford University conferring D.Litt. honoris causaon the Poet.

1941:

India- wide celebrations of the Poet's birthday. 'Sabhyatar Sankat' ('The Crisis of Civilization') delivered as a lecture on that birthday. Poet receiving the 'Bharatbhaskar' (Sun of India) Award from the King of Tripura. Taken ill and so brought to Calcutta.
The Poet passing away on 7th August, (22nd Shravana, 1348: Bengali Calendar).
